Variety reports that 20th Century Fox has hired Akiva Goldsman to oversee the re-boot of Marvel’s Fantastic Four. Marvel Entertainment still owns “Fantastic Four”, but Fox controls the property in perpetuity—as long as it continues making the films. Fox has the same arrangement for Marvel Comics’ properties “X-Men,” “Daredevil,” and “Silver Surfer”.

The new script will be written by Michael Green, the co-executive producer on the series “Heroes” who recently co-wrote the upcoming “Green Lantern” movie.

Similarly, Columbia Pictures is also considering the reboot of another popular Marvel franchise as they gear up for Spiderman 4, 5, and 6. Visual effects for superhero movies have caused production costs to skyrocket, so reshuffling the creative cast gives the studio a chance to save money.
